Tales from the mini van

This blog article comes to you a few days after it was actually written, which was while I was sitting in the passenger seat, on our way to a vacation. It was a little strange not having to work on a project for class to be honest. While I was writing I definitely thought about what it was like traveling as a kid. We didn't have any electronic devices until I got older (they didn't exist at first and then we had to wait until they were a bit more affordable to get them). Sometimes it blows my mind how much we have to keep us entertained on a trip. The kids had iPads, Switches, a box full of books and graphic novels, and movies. I had my laptop, my iPhone, and my iPad (where all of my books are now) and totally could have stolen one of the switches from the kids. I decided to catch up on some writing and it paid off (for once).

Writing for me seems to be a feast or famine sort of experience. Today I dropped both Natives at their respective schools, popped in to the gym for a pre-vacation workout, went home and worked for a bit, checked on a project that launched today, and then finished packing. Hunter took the day off and packed for himself, went to the gym, and picked up the kiddos. He asked to take the first leg of the trip so I took advantage of the time and worked for a bit longer on some loose ends of something I needed to get done before a 9am meeting. Yes, I know I'm on vacation, but it is for one of my favorite people on this planet, and I wouldn't let that woman down ever. If I die and she calls to the great beyond and asks me to do something, I'm definitely coming back from the dead to assist. I finished the work stuff in the first 30 minutes of the drive so I thought I might catch up and type up a blog post or 2 to play a little catch up. I pulled up my trusty txt editor and started.

Four blog posts and a dead battery later I was still typing. I'm sure Hunter was probably sick of the clack of the keyboard. It's easier for me to type in a txt doc because I don't think as much about spelling or grammar or format...I just stream of conscious write and figure I'll catch most of the typos later. We have a van (laugh all you want, that shit comes in handy) and it as dvd player. While the native and the doggo watched Spongebob and Hunter drove and drove...I typed. I prefer driving at night anyway so taking the last half of the trip is appealing for me. I couldn't tell you why it was so easy to write today, I didn't have any great stories to tell, nothing quirky about the day (other than the fact that Hunter tried to lose our dog 3 seconds before we were supposed to start the trip and I wasn't mad at all...yes, I was mad, and I might still be). Normally, if I'm not driving, I struggle to stay awake. Reading makes me tired. Playing games on any of the thousands of portable devices we own makes me tired. Everything makes me tired. Maybe I'll just have to plan a road trip every week so I can just write.
